Supporting a new garden at The Veterans Hub

We are delighted to support a new gardening project at The Veterans Hub in Weymouth, supplying a selection of nutrients and growing media to help veterans grow vegetables and chillies on site. 

Will Lamb, a veteran peer support worker at the Hub, is running the project. He got in touch to ask whether we could help get a garden going, with the aim of giving veterans a practical activity to take part in together and fresh produce grown on their own site. It was an easy yes!

The Veterans Hub has been running since late 2017, when it started as a part-time venture giving veterans and their families a safe place to come together outside a clinical setting. It now supports hundreds of veterans and family members across Dorset. The site houses a community allotment, a fitted gym, wellness rooms and a community café run by veterans and their families that is open to everyone, alongside drop-in clinics and advice services from national charities and local government. Founder Andy Price built the Hub around the principle of veterans supporting veterans, and that still shapes how it works today.

In July 2023 the Hub's volunteer team received the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service from the Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset, one of the last the late Queen Elizabeth II signed off.

"The guys are buzzing," says Will. "We hope to get a full chilli garden area set up by next year. This year I'll be training them in the basics."
